Credit vs Noncredit

TCTC offers a wide range of learning opportunities to support students at every stage of their educational and career journey. Whether students are working toward a degree or gaining new skills for the workforce, understanding the difference between credit and noncredit programs is important for choosing the best pathway forward. Some students begin with noncredit training and later transition to credit programs, while others choose learning opportunities that align with immediate personal or professional goals. Students are encouraged to review program descriptions carefully and connect with advisors or program staff to determine the option that best supports their educational and career plans.

Credit Programming

Credit programs are instructional offerings at Tri-County Technical College that carry academic credit toward a certificate, diploma, or degree. Credit courses follow established semester schedules, grading policies, and requirements for progression and completion. 

These programs are a good fit for students planning to earn a college credential, transfer to another institution, or build a long-term academic or career pathway. Eligible students may also qualify for financial aid and other forms of academic support in accordance with institutional and federal guidelines.

Noncredit Programming

Tri-County Technical College’s noncredit (QuickJobs, for example) programs are courses and training opportunities that do not award college credit. These programs are designed to help students gain specific skills, explore career interests, earn industry credentials, or pursue personal and professional development.

Noncredit offerings are often shorter, more flexible, and focused on practical, hands-on learning. While these courses do not appear on an academic transcript, many provide certificates of completion or prepare students for industry certifications. Similar to credit programs, some of Tri-County Technical College’s QuickJobs programs may be eligible for financial aid.
