Description
This certificate will prepare students for national certification as an EMT Paramedic.
Entry Requirements
- Candidates must have a current National Registry or South Carolina EMT or AEMT certification.
- Per the SC DHEC Bureau of EMS & Trauma, candidates must have sucessfully completed an Anatomy & Physiology course within the last five years prior to the start date of the program.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion, students will be able to:
- Show critical thinking abilities in the application of patient care at the paramedic level
- Present themselves in a professional manner with regards to the ethical and moral standards of health care
- Function in a manner that shows effective time management skills in the healthcare setting
- Demonstrate the technical abilities associated with those necessary for an entry-level paramedic
- Display the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form with patients, family members, and fellow health care professionals in the process of providing patient care
- Display the ability to perform detailed patient assessments and comprise accurate patient care plans in the emergency setting
- Demonstrate the ability to perform entry level paramedic skills and procedures within the established national standards for the various patient encounters
- Demonstrate the ability to establish differential diagnosis based upon a detailed knowledge of pathophysiology, patient assessments and patient’s presentations within the framework of emergency medical care
- Assume the responsibilities of continued growth, development and life-long learning to ensure the up to date knowledge and proficiencies
- Assume the role as a true patient advocate and, through this, ensure that the focus remains on promoting patient care at its highest level
